Supporting Monastic Schools Amidst Oppressive Regime

The following report and request comes from our local team leader:

I now receive numerous urgent appeals from monastic schools across our nation, pleading for assistance as they struggle to operate effectively. The impact of the military coup weighs heavily on our lives day after day, and its repercussions extend far into the future, particularly affecting the well-being of our younger generations. These monastic schools, which embrace children from diverse backgrounds, religions, and ethnicities, strive to provide a basic secular education to those in their care.

Within this context, there are three categories of monastic schools that we have identified as requiring support.

Firstly, there are the forestry seclusion monasteries. In the eastern townships of Mandalay, Madaya, Sintgaing, Kyaukse, and the majestic hills of the Shan Mountains, one can find these monasteries nestled amidst the lush forests. These sites hold significant importance, such as the renowned Yetagun Mountain where the venerable Arhat Monle Sayadaw immersed himself in seclusion and meditation, achieving elevated spiritual states there. Unfortunately, some of these forestry monastics endure hardship and face food scarcity, particularly those residing in the eastern hills of Monywa.

Secondly, we have the rural village monasteries known as 'Ywa-Oo,' which translates to 'located at the head of the village.' Through my interactions with monastic supporters and volunteer teachers, I have been informed of the challenging circumstances faced by monasteries in various areas of Sagaing Region, including Shwe Bo, Khin-U, Depeyin, and others.

Lastly, there are certain monastic schools and missionary schools situated in the remote regions of Chin State. These educational institutions have reached out to us, humbly requesting any form of assistance, be it food or any other helpful contribution, as they find themselves in dire need.

I implore you to consider making a donation to support our collective endeavor. Your generosity will make a meaningful difference in the lives of these struggling monastic schools and the students they serve.
