A Voice Speaking Out
One of our ground staff has written the following message and asked us to share here.
I have been on the ground helping people as much as I am able to do. I always make sure our donation fund reaches those in need as soon as we receive it. But it has been two years since the military coup here in Myanmar. I have noticed how budget flows for humanitarian aid are also decreasing over time. One of the persons in charge of an IDP camp in Karenni state explained the reason for the low amount of funds. This is what he said to me:
"Before December 2021, we received enough funds every month. But now, We don't even get the basic allowance we need to survive. There are only elderly people and children in our camp, so it is not convenient for them to go out and work.”
He told me that those local donors who used to give now have very limited resources left to help, and the dangers of sharing this donation is also more serious than ever before. This is why we can no longer rely on the domestic donations for us to survive. We have to find a way to get support beyond our region.
Still, those fleeing the war have to use various methods to earn money. Artists auction their works; selling crafts and toys. If the readers see such items, we would like them not to avoid them and buy them. The proceeds from the sale are not for personal use, but to donate a day's worth of food to refugees.
And if we have nothing at all left to sell, I request you to consider a donation. We here in Myanmar really receive your fund when you give to Better Burma. Maybe other organizations you trust can also apply these generous donations in an effective way, so that is also helpful. Even if it is only a few dollars per month, we really thank you now.
