A Solemn Anniversary

Dear friends,

February 1st marks the two-year anniversary of the attempted military coup in Myanmar. Our hearts remain heavy with the memories of the atrocities that have been inflicted upon the Burmese people. The images of violence and terror that were beamed across the world will forever be etched in our minds, a constant reminder of the human capacity for cruelty and evil.

Despite the military’s ouster of the democratically elected government, its efforts to solidify its hold on the country have failed because of the incredible resilience, sacrifice, and strength of the Burmese people. So we intentionally use the word “attempted” when describing the coup above. The democracy movement teaches us that the human spirit can endure and prevail even in the face of oppression and violence! We certainly hope that this attempted coup will never be successful, and that the people of Myanmar will live in peace and prosperity.

As we reflect back on the darkness of these past two years, another light emerges besides the perseverance and bravery of the Burmese people: the generosity and love of our donors, who have given so kindly and freely. Your donations have helped to provide food, shelter, and medical care to those who were most affected by the military takeover You have offered a glimmer of hope in the midst of despair, and stood by as allies when it was most needed. We are eternally grateful for and humbled by your contributions.

We understand that these are difficult times for many of us, yet unfortunately, the need in Myanmar remains great, and the horrors continue. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Let us remember the past, but let us also look to the future with hope and determination. Together, we can make a difference.

And let us hope that in the future, we will not need to mark any more attempted-coup anniversaries!

With deep gratitude,
