Extending a Helping Hand: Updates on Myanmar Flood Relief Efforts
Our local team leader shares the following update:
Building on information from our last post, we want to update you about our efforts to help communities in Myanmar affected by the recent heavy flooding. The situation is still serious, and your support is more needed now than ever before!
The severe floods have hit the region of Patheingyi near Mandalay and Bago. The city was hit hard, and the Samanera University Monastery close to Mandalay got the worst of it. The ground floor of the big building, where the novices live, was all under water, and it's still not good. Urgent attention and support are needed to help them.
Bago proper was also hit hard by flooding from the heavy rain and the rising Bago River. The situation is still awful for the local people, especially poor families in the city and suburban areas. They need food badly!
We are redoubling our efforts to help these people. We are giving tickets, like coupons, to families hit hard by the flooding. Using those coupons, they come to the monastery at a determined time to get rice, vegetable oil, onions, potatoes, salt, etc. We see what is available locally and what the market prices are to decide what to buy and give them.
Your donations are important to help these people and make their lives better. Your kindness is hope for them, as the state can't help them enough because of the political problems in Myanmar.
We say a big thank you to all who gave and keep giving. If you want to help these communities in Myanmar, please visit our page for donation. Together, we can make a difference and help these people rebuild their lives.
Thank you for standing with us in this difficult time. We can do something good together!
