A Nation on Fire
Yesterday morning at 2 a.m., a fire started in Insein township, northern Yangon. No one knows who actually started it, although everyone suspects the military was behind it, and it came just a day after their protective barricades were removed. Unsure how far the fire would spread, neighbors quickly packed their most precious belongings in case their own respective homes would also be lost. Do take a look at this terrifying video shared by Myanmar Now, and photos of the fire (and its aftermath) appear below.
Neighbors quickly awoke and began filling whatever buckets they had to quench the flames, and were somehow able to stop its damage at just two homes.
While the tragedy and terror of this event dominates our thinking, we are pleased to report that we have transferred some of the donation fund that all of you have been so generously providing us. There is little comfort we can provide for those who have lost everything. But at least we have been able to provide some assistance as they look for a way to move on.
Thank you, donors.
