Humanitarian missions in Thantlang
Who do you call to put out the fires, when it is state authorities who have started the fires? We received the following urgent request from our Chin partners who are providing relief across the region, and are now particularly focused on the small mountain town of Thantlang, which the Tatmadaw has recently tried to burn to the ground. Please consider sharing this funding request to your contact group, as they are now desperately in need of support.
“Since the military coup on Feb 1st 2021 , the situation in Myanmar has become worsen every day, thousands of the government employees have joined in the Civil Disobedient Movement (CDM), millions of people protest peacefully across the country for months, however in response, the military cracked down brutally on the CDM participants, the peaceful protesters, their families, and those who sort to support them by means of arrest, torture, murder, and imprisonment. Recently the crackdown and oppression by the Military regime have increased across the country resulting to several people killed, injured, and forced thousands of people to flee their homes and villages including Thantlang Town in Chin State. Since Sept, 2021 due to the intense fighting between the Burmese military and the people defense forces , more than 95% of the residents in Thantlang town have left their homes to escape from the violence , and taking temporary shelter in forests and nearby villages and many others taking shelter a long Indian - Myanmar villages . On Oct 29th , the military shelled the town with heavy weapons causing massive fires , destroying at least 184 houses ( according to the locals).
Fleeing suddenly to the forests and other villages for their life and protection without any preparation, the affected population and the IDPs solely rely on the generous people support by the hosting community and the support from outside. The urgent needs among many needs include such as food , shelter , and basic health care . We will be using the all funds you share to provide urgent need of food relief for about the 70 conflict affected families and victims of the Thantlang Town.”
