Side Effect: Meikhtila

Our recent episode exploring a Burmese activist in France featured music generously donated by the acclaimed Yangon-based Indie band Side Effect. The song sampled, “Meikhtila”, was written last year following the violence between Buddhist and Muslim communities in this central Burmese city. As powerful as the lyrics are and as harrowing the music, the video is even more impactful, depicting a Muslim woman and Buddhist nun coming together at Sule Pagoda for the climactic scene.

We are so grateful that more and more Burmese artists are making available their craft to be included on our upcoming Insight Myanmar podcast episodes. The new range of audio options that we now have available allows us to bring the listener more deeply into the Burmese landscape that we are exploring.
