"I'm happy for today, but next week I have to be sad...”

We recently delivered critical aid to an IDP camp where children and families face unimaginable hardship. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we provided rice and cooking oil to nearly 200 malnourished children and financial support to two expectant mothers in urgent need. The region remains perilous, with ongoing bombings creating life-threatening challenges, but we pushed forward to deliver this aid because the need is urgent and unrelenting. The supplies we brought have offered temporary relief, but many families still struggle to survive. More contributions are needed to sustain these efforts, provide food, and support healthcare for the most vulnerable. Your compassion has saved lives, and together we can continue to bring hope to those holding on by a thread.

For one mother of six whom our local teams encountered, the struggles of survival were already overwhelming before tragedy struck her family. She had been barely managing to feed her children, battling the constant specter of hunger that looms over so many in the camp. When we delivered rice and cooking oil to her, it was more than just food—it was a lifeline. The donation allowed her to prepare meals for her children during a time when even the simplest necessities felt impossibly out of reach.

“I’ve lost so much, but with this help, I can feed my children and care for them, at least for a little while. It gives me strength to keep going,” she told us, her gratitude both heartwarming and heartbreaking. For a brief moment, the weight on her shoulders eased. She could see her children eat, even smile, and feel the smallest semblance of stability in a life defined by uncertainty. We want to share this story, with you, our donors, to better understand and appreciate the real impact that your contributions are having on the ground. Thank you, again.

But in IDP camps in Myanmar these days, hope is fragile, and safety is fleeting. Just two days after receiving the food, an airstrike hit this camp, shattering what little peace she had found. Two of her children—young lives full of promise—were taken from her in an instant. The loss was unbearable, a pain that no words could ever capture. Yet, even in her grief, she had to find the strength to care for her remaining four children, who needed her more than ever. As she later told us, “I’m happy for today, but next week I have to be sad...”

How do you even begin to express such suffering?

And so in the end, the food she received became more than a means to fill empty stomachs; it became a source of resilience. During those dark days of mourning, when the world felt impossibly heavy, knowing that her other children were fed gave her one less worry. It allowed her to focus on holding her family together, on surviving through yet another tragedy that no mother should ever have to endure. This utter tragedy is more than most of us could ever begin to comprehend, but what can we do but continue to try to support and care, as much as our heart allows?

Her story is a sobering reminder of the stakes in Myanmar today. Each day brings new challenges, new losses, and new reasons to keep fighting for those who remain. While we cannot undo her pain, we are grateful to have played a small part in easing her burden, even for a moment. But there are so many more families like hers, so many more mothers holding on for the sake of their children, and so much more we must do to support them.

For those who are willing to give to continue to aid this mission, here is a breakdown of what your contribution can mean in tangible terms:

  • $25 USD: Provides 15 kilograms of rice for a child, enough to sustain them with essential nourishment for weeks.

  • $10 USD: Buys approximately 7 bottles of cooking oil for families to prepare their meals.

  • $20 USD: Contributes significantly to transportation costs, ensuring aid reaches the camp even under challenging conditions.

  • $50 USD: Helps cover operational support, such as volunteer efforts and logistics, to maintain the continuity of aid.

  • $100 USD: Feeds multiple families for weeks, offering them the hope and sustenance they desperately need.

The needs of the camp are vast and urgent. Every meal provided, every ounce of support offered, makes a difference in the lives of those who are struggling to survive. This mother’s story shows both the fragility and the strength of the human spirit, and it underscores why we cannot stop now. With your help, we can continue to provide not only food and aid but also hope to families who are clinging to it with all they have left.
