Our Emergency Fund

When disaster strikes, there is no time to wait.

That reality became painfully clear one night when the town of Lailenpi in Chin State was bombarded by military jets last year. Families fled in terror, abandoning their homes and possessions as explosions tore through their community. Some ran to the jungle, others to nearby farms, clutching only the clothes on their backs. By morning, over 3,000 people were displaced, hungry, and vulnerable. The situation was dire, but because we had an Emergency Fund ready to deploy, we didn’t have to waste precious time organizing a fundraising campaign. We acted immediately, delivering food, medicine, and essentials like blankets and clothing to those who needed it most. The relief was tangible; lives were saved because we were able to respond without hesitation.

A similar urgency arose in Karenni State, where we learned through our contacts that 110 children in a displacement camp were on the brink of starvation. These children, many of whom had lived in camps for years, were now barely surviving from a lack of resources amid the ongoing conflict. When we learned they hadn’t eaten a proper meal in weeks, we knew we couldn’t ignore their plight. So we supported local teams who endured three days of difficult travel, navigating treacherous terrain to reach them. Despite challenges, they brought enough rice, beans, and meat to prepare meals for weeks ahead. This moment of care was only possible because we could mobilize resources immediately, thanks to supporters who had contributed to our Emergency Fund.

Then there was Kyaukme, where ongoing violence forced families to flee to a monastery in Kyi Kaing Village. Over 200 displaced people sought shelter under the care of an abbot, who stretched his resources to the limit to feed and house them. The trauma they carried was evident. Our local teams rushed in to provide sacks of rice and dried fish to support the abbot’s efforts, ensuring these vulnerable families could eat and rest. Again, we didn’t need to stop and ask for donations from our overseas supporters before taking action—our Emergency Fund allowed us to respond instantly, providing relief to people who had already suffered far too much.

These are just a few examples of the life-saving work we’ve supported in Myanmar, often in the face of unimaginable hardship. But none of it would have been possible without a ready pool of resources to draw from. When disaster strikes, there isn’t time to wait! People are starving, wounded, or displaced, and they need immediate help. Fundraising campaigns take time—time we don’t have when lives are on the line. That’s why our Emergency Fund is so critical. It allows us to act as soon as we hear the call for help, without hesitation or delay. This is also why we are making an appeal to you today about this resource.

By contributing to our Emergency Fund, you ensure that when the next crisis hits, we’ll be ready. Your support directly translates into meals for hungry children, medicine for the sick, and shelter for those fleeing violence. We’ve seen time and again how these moments of quick action can make all the difference. And with your help, we can continue to show up for the people of Myanmar when they need us most.

We so appreciate your support, whether it’s through a one-time donation or by committing to a monthly pledge; every bit helps us extend our reach to the most vulnerable. You can donate through secure platforms like PayPal or Patreon, or find more options on our donation page
