Lucy's Donation Makes an Impact in Bagan!

We are thrilled to share the inspiring story of Lucy, a young girl in the UK whose family has roots in Burma. Through her own initiative, as we shared earlier in the year, she raised £170 by completing a sponsored read as part of her Girl Guides charity project, driven by a deep connection to Burma and a desire to help those affected by the ongoing conflict. Her generous contribution was used to support displaced children in need of food and water, making a meaningful difference in their lives. Lucy's efforts remind us all that, no matter how far away we are, we can still make a positive impact on the lives of those suffering in Burma. We share the following report from our donation manager.

We are truly grateful for Lucy’s contribution and her heartfelt efforts in raising awareness and donations for Burma, especially as her family has a personal connection to the country. As Lucy explained in her own words, her family originally planned to leave Burma temporarily following General Aung San’s assassination, but due to the ongoing conflict, they settled in England, and have been there for many decades since.

I am pleased to report on the recent donations made to support the flood victims in Bagan, which was made possible Lucy’s extraordinary generosity. Our local team coordinated a successful delivery of food and water to families living in the sandbar areas in the middle of the river. On the first day, we distributed food boxes to 160 people and delivered purified drinking water to 160 families. These families live in vulnerable areas, and some of our volunteers even had to step into the water to ensure that the elderly residents received their supplies.

The local volunteer team worked tirelessly to prepare meals, cooking rice with chicken and green mango salad, starting the previous evening and continuing into the early morning. They distributed these meals to families in Myinkabar Village, where many fishermen live in small huts along the riverbank. The volunteers used a 3-wheeled cycle to navigate through some areas, stopping at houses along the way to distribute the food. For families living further out in the middle of the river, the team took boats, ensuring that everyone received what they needed.

The villagers were incredibly grateful to receive 20-liter bottles of purified water, which will relieve their worries about drinking water for at least four to five days. It is truly humbling to see how a small contribution can make such a big difference in their lives.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, and we are particularly moved by the messages of gratitude from the elderly couples who received the donations. One couple expressed their wish to meet the nine-year-old donor, Lucy, and we hope that one day she may be able to visit these villages and see the impact of her kindness firsthand. You will see her name written onto those food packages that we were able to deliver around Bagan as well.

Thank you for your continued support, and may you find happiness and peace in the same way you have brought it to these families.
