Grains of Hope
The following report is a heartfelt expression of gratitude to our generous donors, whose contributions have made an extraordinary impact on the lives of displaced families in dire need. Without your support, these communities would continue to face overwhelming challenges in silence. Your donations have not only provided critical sustenance but also delivered a powerful message of hope to families who have gone months without aid. It is because of your kindness that we were able to reach those often forgotten and provide them with relief, reminding them that they are not alone in their struggle. Thank you for being a lifeline in these difficult times!
In our country, many people still face big problems even though it is no longer in the news. But we are really truly grateful for your support, because now we can bring some hope to the people in need. Recently, we provided visited two refugee camps that had not received help for months.
Our team visited the camps for a week and saw how the families are living in very poor conditions. Even though the world does not see these camps, the situation is very hard for the people there. Over 320 children have been living in these temporary shelters for three years without basic needs! There is not enough food, and aid organizations are not able to come to visit. For the past three months, these families have been surviving on just one meal a day. In our talks with the people, we learned how difficult life is for them. Families with up to eight people live on very little food. Children are dropping out of school because they cannot pay the small monthly fee of 3,000 Kyats, which is less than two dollars! Mothers go to nearby villages to beg for rice to feed their children. I’m so sorry to know this and I just want to help.
One young man told us this: "I was top of my class before we fled. Now, I spend my days scavenging for firewood instead of studying. My dreams feel further away each day."
Anyway, back to our appreciation: thanks to the donation, we gave each child two kilograms of rice, which is enough for eight days, and one liter of cooking oil for each family. The children held the bags of rice like it was something very special. One mother with three children cried as she said that this food meant they could eat that night, even if she did not know what would happen the next day. We also provided meat, chili, potatoes, rice, and beans.
While this help was not a permanent solution, it gave these families some much-needed relief. We were very touched by their strength and spirit. The children, parents, and grandparents showed us how much they can endure, even when things are very hard. The on-ground crew assisting with this donation said with a reflective thought: “Donations like these help fill their stomachs, but when will they go home? That’s what will heal their hearts.”
Anyway, I want you to know that your donations did more than just feed people – they showed them that they are not forgotten. As we continue to watch the situation and think of how we can help more, we remain committed to standing by these families. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
