Turning the Tide: Empowering Soldiers for Myanmar's Democratic Shift

Better Burma is hoping to support a group of defected soldiers—and their spouses—in running a campaign to encourage more soldiers to refuse to engage in further terror campaigns, to leave the military once and for all, and to join the democracy movement. Please read the following mission of the group that is now requesting assistance, if you’d like to aid in their efforts, consider a contribution of any amount!

The project, "Strengthening Civil Organization to encourage Non-lethal Involvement" aims to address the non-lethal participation of soldiers in Myanmar by strengthening civil society organizations and promoting defection from the military. The project will focus on increasing media outreach and providing accurate information to soldiers through investigative social media content, fact-checking reports, and analysis. By sharing real-life experiences of defected soldiers and their families, the project aims to inspire soldiers to defect and join the movement for democracy restoration in Myanmar. Additionally, the project seeks to strengthen the core funding of the organization to support non-lethal involvement among Myanmar soldiers and provide assistance to their wives and their children who have shifted to the people's side from the military.

In sum, the project aims to change the ideology of soldiers and provide them with the necessary information to defect safely. It recognizes the importance of influencing soldiers to change sides for the success of Myanmar's revolution and nonviolent strategies. Through a combination of media campaigns, discussions forums, and targeted outreach, the project strives to increase engagement with in-service soldiers and facilitate their transition away from the military. By doing so, it aspires to contribute to the demilitarization of Myanmar and the restoration of democracy.
