Yesterday, we held a donation event at the Shwezigon Pagoda, a well-known Buddhist temple in Bagan. Shwezigon Pagoda is considered one of the most important landmarks in the region, and is a popular destination for tourists and local pilgrims alike. It is believed to have been built in the early 11th century during the reign of King Anawrahta, who was the founder of the first Myanmar empire. The pagoda is named after the "Great Golden Mountain," a term used to describe the Buddhist concept of enlightenment. It is said to contain a relic of the Buddha, considered to be a source of spiritual power and inspiration for Buddhists.
During our event, we were able to donate a total of 5,508 kilograms of rice, 300 liters of vegetable oil, and 1,620 eggs to 162 nuns from 17 nunneries located in Bagan and Nyaung-U. Each nun received one tin of rice (equivalent to approximately 34 kilograms), one viss of vegetable oil (approximately 1.8 liters), and 10 eggs as part of the donation. The event was a success, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of these nuns and their communities.
Monks and nuns in Myanmar are facing difficult conditions as a result of the military coup, including limited access to essential resources and services, increased insecurity and risk of violence, and restrictions on their freedom of movement and expression. Therefore, this donation of food and other essential items was extremely helpful in these circumstances. The donation of rice, vegetable oil, and eggs improved the quality of life for the monks and nuns and made a positive difference in their communities.
