A letter to our donors

This letter was sent out to every donor who made a contribution to Better Burma since our founding last year. In case we may have accidentally left off any names, we are sharing it here as well. Thank you!!!

Dear friend,

We are writing this letter for three purposes. First and foremost, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation to you for having donated to Better Burma!  Second, for those who may be less familiar with our organization, we would like to provide a brief overview of the Better Burma nonprofit mission.  And finally, we want to be sure you learn of our latest initiative, the Still We Rise! Art auction.

As we take stock of our work over this past year or so, we see that, amazingly, Better Burma has raised around USD $300,000 in donations thanks to the extraordinarily compassionate contributions that donors like you have provided!  We invite you to take a moment to see the wide range of activities and projects we’ve been able to support because of your generosity, as well as those initiatives we are currently raising funds for.  Even as the democratic movement in Myanmar finds it hard to stay in the news on most days outside the country, your donations have helped ensure that the Burmese people are not forgotten, and we thank you sincerely for that.

Better Burma was founded in direct response to the February 2021 military coup in Myanmar. Our initial goal was just to support those vulnerable populations most acutely impacted by the coup and its aftermath. But then as the conflict stretched into months, and now over a year, we had to adapt and innovate in order to better fulfill our mission of spreading awareness, pursuing advocacy, and collecting donations to support the Burmese people through these dark times. We now support a wide range of humanitarian missions across Myanmar, benefiting people from all regions, ethnicities, and religions.

Besides our humanitarian work, Better Burma has been producing the Insight Myanmar Podcast.  We recently added the Myanmar Revolutionary Tales Podcast to our offerings; and are pleased to announce that plans are underway to release two additional programs in the near future. All three of these new podcasts will feature Burmese hosts. We are very pleased to be assisting in the cultivation of local journalism at a time when conventional media is under such terrible assault in Myanmar. We also feature an English language blog and Burmese language blog as well.

Finally, we want to draw your attention to our latest, and still-ongoing art auction, Still We Rise!, which runs through May 22nd. Better Burma has recently been overwhelmed of late by requests to fulfill urgent needs on the ground, and proceeds from Still We Rise! will go towards those humanitarian initiatives. We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider sharing about this event to people in your network or community so as many people as people can be made aware. Please do take a look yourself at the amazing works of art on display--and perhaps awaiting your bid!

As a non-profit that mainly relies on the generosity of individuals, Better Burma always welcomes donations, whether one-time or recurring, to support our on-going and future humanitarian projects.  It is never comfortable asking for money, especially from those who have already given so generously. Yet the needs of the Burmese people continue to multiply, and the concern of the outside world continues to decline. It would be wonderful if you are in the position of being able to donate again; it would also be extremely helpful to let others know of our mission, or even just to advocate in some small way so attention continues to be paid to the crisis in Myanmar.
