Donation to Mindat IDP Camp
Reports continue to highlight the terrible fighting persisting in Chin State’s Mindat region, which carries on a real human toll of devastation that the news rarely cover. The Burmese military has been hitting Chin State hard since the coup, exacting a particular vengeance there, and engaging in inhuman operations from burning down entire villages to launching airstrikes on defenseless civilians to their usual campaigns of theft, rape, and the use of indiscriminate landmines.
As a result, there has been a tremendous uptick in the number of Chin Internally Displaced Peoples, or IDPs, and large camps have begun to form outside Mindat. To protect the safety of the scores of children now at this camp, we are unable to show faces or indicate location, as the Burmese military has been specifically targeting these defenseless people with raids, crop burnings, and airstrikes.
Better Burma has been working with several trusted Chin-based groups for the past year, and who have been doing great humanitarian work, often at risk to their own lives in an attempt to help their people from the continued assaults of the Tatmadaw. So when they recently reported to us how many Chin people had to abandon their villages and flee to refugee camps, we allocated some of the donation fund to support those families now sheltering as they try to survive against the assaults of a professional military.
Once again, we sincerely thank all of our donors for your extraordinary generosity. The funds you are providing are literally saving lives, at a time when other countries and multinational organizations are doing next to nothing to help those now in dire states. We could not do this without your support.
