Thanks to you, we have provided water!

We asked, and you responded.

Last month, we notified our donor base about the urgent, life-or-death water needs that Chin IDPs were facing, given the mass exodus of refugees in response to the military crackdown up and down Chin state. Thanks to your donations, we were able to provide sufficient funds to our local partners who since began providing basic water needs for those Chin on the run. Although we weren’t able to cover the full request (which means there is still room for further contribution for those with volition!), what we had on hand was enough to begin construction. We will be updating the relief projects in place as our local partners continue to share details with us. Now, they have provided one case study after speaking with one Chin refugee, and kindly translated her words, alongside this photo.

“Both my husband and I were government teachers in Lailenpi Town and joined Civil Disobedience Movement and participating in protesting against the military junta in Lailenpi. After two to three days of protesting, we were warned that the military will arrest us. As a government employee joining Civil Disobedience Movement and to escape the arrest and being tortured, we have to flee and slept often in the jungle, river, and field whenever we heard they will arrest us. I am the mother of 2 children and it is not safe for us to stay in Lailenpi as a family. We decided to leave Lailenpi and came to India for our safety.

The most difficulties I faced as a mother after arriving in India is regarding the water. Especially when it is related to health and hygiene. When my young children poop, I have to use stick or leaves as we do not have any water source or sufficient water in refugee camp. Sometimes they got rashes in their private areas but we do not have any other choice. So, now after setting up the water system for us, we will be able to maintain our health. We are forever thankful for your help and support.’’
