The Final Victory

"We definitely will win. What I’m not sure is who will survive... how many of us will survive to witness the victory. I may not be there to see the victory, and even if am, to see that many of my friends might not."

Thiri's interview seemed to strike many listeners in a truly profound way. The raw honesty and vulnerability she shared touched many, and also revealed her total commitment in achieving her people's freedom. These sentiments and more were not easily forgotten after listening.

And perhaps no other quote got at the heart of her message as this one, in which she acknowledges that freedom is not free: among her fellow activists, not all will survive. Yet living on in this terrorized Myanmar is certainly not an option, and the new society they hope to build will be populated by whoever is left.

These are grave, heavy words to take in, and they give us an insight into not only the stakes of this struggle, but also the depths that the people are willing to go in order to root out evil from their land.

What can you do to help?
