Generation Wave

Bobo's statement about the ongoing work of Generation Wave is truly inspiring, as he shared in our recent podcast discussion. It is a testament to the resilience and commitment of those who have dedicated their lives to the struggle for human rights and democracy in their country, despite the grave risks and challenges they face.

Before the coup, Generation Wave engaged in various activities to advocate for human rights and political reforms. However, after the coup, they had to go underground and work in secret. Despite this, they continued to support human rights defenders and document human rights violations. They have also been actively involved in the current movement, providing support and expertise gained from their past experiences.

It takes great courage and determination to continue fighting for justice in the face of such adversity. The work of Generation Wave is a beacon of hope for those who believe in the power of people to effect change. Their efforts remind us that even in the darkest of times, there are those who will not give up the fight for a better future.

Our goal, our objective, is to overthrow the military regime! We are fighting for human rights, democracy, and to have a peaceful federal democratic country.

“When we went above ground, we did advocacy and campaigning, also capacity building trainings for young people. We did human rights documentation. We collected the human rights violations committed by different stakeholders. And then we did advocacy based on that data. We did several things for reforms of the country. We advocated a lot for law reforms, regarding repression of the people. So that was before the coup.

Then after the coup, we are supporting human rights defenders.

We support the technically by giving training and also by supporting their security issues. We are still continuing our human rights documentation, especially civil and political rights issues. We are doing campaign networking and advocacy, as well. Now, we are also involved in the strike committees. We continue discussing and we continue active involvement in the movement. We keep fighting.

For the Spring Revolution, we drew up, I mean, we discussed our strategy a lot. Brainstorming and discussion. So, after that, we are supporting the current movement and current revolution. Based on our experience, based on the expertise that we have now, we are trying to support to the movement. We involved in the movement and also connected with all of our allied organizations throughout the country. Not only to our country internally but to our allied organizations internationally, we are so committed to them.

Basically this is what Generation Wave is doing. Our goal, our objective, is to overthrow the military regime! We are fighting for human rights, democracy, and to have a peaceful federal democratic country. That's what we are aiming at. That’s what we are doing now. And we will be continuing until we reach our goal!

We say to ourselves, ‘Generation Wave, it means our movement, our attempts, our fight for democracy, peaceful efforts for democracy, to have a fairer democratic country. So, we see ourselves [as] waves. The waves are going wave-by-wave to reach to the goal, to reach to our goal. The waves that come in, wave-by-wave, hear our movement and our generation, coming wave-by-wave to reach to our goals, to reach, to bring, to fight for human rights [and] democracy until we reach it.’”
