What do you want to ask Sean Turnell?
Sean Turnell's background is steeped in economics and academic expertise. He's an honorary professor of economics at Macquarie University, with a history of working for the Reserve Bank of Australia and conducting research on various aspects of the Myanmar economy. His notable book, "Fiery Dragons: Banks, Moneylenders and Microfinance in Burma," delves into the financial sector of Myanmar.
However, his life took an unexpected turn when he was detained in Myanmar for 650 days, beginning in February 2021, in the aftermath of the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état. Turnell faced charges related to breaching the Myanmar Official Secrets Act while serving as an advisor to Aung San Suu Kyi, which garnered international attention and led to calls for his immediate release by the Australian government, academic colleagues, and human rights advocates worldwide. His imprisonment became a symbol of the larger human rights and political issues in Myanmar.
We will be having an interview on our podcast with Sean Turnell, and want to hear your questions for him! If you have any questions about his experiences, insights, or expertise related to longstanding relationship with Myanmar, including his time in detention, or any other topic, please share them with us. Your questions could be featured in our upcoming podcast episode!
