Kyar Phyu: It's very interesting and inspiring for us to see the Generation Z women join the PDF [People’s Defense Forces], support the PDF, and help the IDPs [Internally Displaced Persons].
Host: Yeah. And that seems to be something new in Myanmar history. From my reading of past Myanmar history and military, I can't really think of another conflict period where women have played such an important role in the actual conflict part of it.
Kyar Phyu: Yeah, this is the new history for us.
Host: It certainly is. Why do you think it is? There were certainly women involved in the 1988 uprising, but not like they are now, regarding the risks and the courage that they're showing, so why do you think it is that this time this generation has produced so many young women that are willing to make this ultimate sacrifice?
Kyar Phyu: I think it's the because of technology. This is the generation where everyone can access the internet. So we got many privileges, compared to other generations in Myanmar. That's why the younger generation got more freedom! And within the 10 years of the democratic period before this coup, a lot of young people got exposure to the international communities, freedom of speech, freedom of thoughts, political science, and freedom of movement.
There are many groups of young ladies fighting in the revolution! They are taking military training like men, so it's really inspiring to see. I feel very proud of the new generation of woman leaders. I have very positive and optimistic hopes for my country. After the revolution, if we win, we will definitely overcome whatever political challenges we have been face in the previous decades. We can remove all these things with the new generation.
