A video by Chuu Wai Nyein

Chuu Wai Nyein’s art has inspired the protest movement in many ways, as our recent interview uncovered. True to her artistic spirit, her creative expression has taken many forms since the military coup, from painting to signage, and from performance art to video, such as the one below. In the revolution, art has come to play an outsized role, at times motivating and inspiring the movement, while at other times capturing the sorrow and pain that many have felt to have their rights and dignity stripped away. Chuu shares how her own artistic background came to play a role in the early days of protest, and the danger she soon faced for daring to express herself.
