Punk Buddhism in Myanmar

The Burma Spring Benefit Film Festival is on! Never before have such a large collection of Burma-related documentaries and films been available for streaming, and the best news, you can do it all for free! Leave a donation if you can, and it will go to a good cause, but whatever your financial situation, this is a special opportunity not to be missed.

One film you might like to check out is My Buddha Is Punk, which traces the synthesis of Buddhist practice and punk music of Rebel Riot frontman Kyaw Kyaw. The documentary is an unflinching look at urban Burmese culture, and how one progressive, free-thinker navigates custom and expectation while also seeking free expression.

If you find the topic of interest, I also encourage you to go back and listen to my interview with Kyaw Kyaw last year, in which we reference scenes from this film throughout
