The Soldier's Wife

I am very pleased to be engaging soon in a conversation with a special person.

I will be speaking to the wife of a Tatmadaw soldier who defected from the military. Following their departure, she has set up an organization to carry out two main functions: first, to encourage other soldiers to defect, primarily through contact with their wives; and second, to provide short-term safety and long-term stability to the families of those soldiers who do defect, largely through free vocational training.

This remarkable woman will detail her own life as a military wife for years before the coup, her fateful decision to leave the organization that sheltered and cared for them, and their current hardships on the run. She will also describe why any successful defection strategy should focus on the soldier’s spouse, and how influential they are in the decision making process.

We already have a wonderful list of questions prepared to learn more about her life and work, but given the unique nature of her background and knowledge, I also want to open it up to listeners who might also have special areas of interest to explore.
