A Downed Helicopter
This recent cartoon by the Burmese cartoonist is attempting to bring hope and inspiration to the Burmese people that the military may on on their last legs. It shows a helicopter being shot down, referencing the recent successful attempts of resistance forces firing upon pilots who were attacking them.
The military has been resorting more and more to aerial assaults, which some see as a hopeful sign that they are losing the ground battles. Be that as it may, these attacks by air have been simply devastating. They have killed scores of people while destroying schools, Buddhist monasteries, Christian churches, IDP camps, and more civilian centers as they bomb indiscriminately. With the international community turning its back from enforcing no-fly zones or limiting the military's access to jet fuel and spare parts, Burmese people have watched on helplessly as more terror reigns from above.
For this reason, little could be more helpful for those trying to survive than to hear the news that at least one such killing machine was shot out of the sky. One can only hope that this has done at least something to destabilize the terror structure that Min Aung Hlaing is clinging to, and that the military's end may finally be in sight.
