An Alien Encounter
Here we see a Burmese Buddhist monk and alien having a conversation. The monk says, "They are very peaceful and very polite," and the alien responds, "In that case, I will come to visit."
While the meaning of this sketch by JMP is quite interesting, the execution leads a lot to be desired. It is unclear why exactly they are talking and what the monk is trying to convince the alien of-- there is a lot of context missing, in other words. But what underlies this exchange is an expression of satire.
The monk can be seen to be a member of Ma Ba Tha, the extremist monastic faction. His exaggerated nobility suggests his deceit, and the manipulation of Western audiences that there is some kind of inherent nobility simply because he has robes and a shaven head. The placement of the alien is an indication that today, even Westerners unfamiliar with Burmese Buddhism will no longer be fooled by the lies of the Ma Ba Tha monk, as they now know well the hateful fringe elements in the Sangha. For that reason, JMP seems to be suggesting that the only being left to fool about how poorly behaved these Ma Ba Tha monks really are, would be aliens coming from another planet.
