Rage Against the Dying of the Light

As Myanmar’s conflict drags on, the world’s attention is slipping away.

This is not unusual—it happens far too often with crises like this—but it is no less heartbreaking. Over four years since the military coup, global focus has waned, even as the atrocities on the ground have only worsened. The suffering continues unabated, hidden in the shadows of international neglect, and those responsible for the violence grow bolder without the spotlight of accountability.

At Better Burma, we see this fading interest with a deep sense of urgency. For the millions of people affected by this crisis, the stakes could not be higher. Airstrikes devastate communities. Villages are being burned to the ground. Camps for internally displaced people are now targets, not sanctuaries. Over 4 million people have been forced from their homes, left without food, medicine, or safety. These are not isolated incidents—they are deliberate, calculated acts of cruelty. Every day, families are torn apart by murder, rape, torture, and abduction. For those still fighting to survive, life has become a daily battle against despair.

Despite these horrors, the resilience of Myanmar’s people has been nothing short of extraordinary. From the early days of the coup, young activists, grassroots movements, and ordinary citizens have risked everything to resist the military’s brutality. They continue to fight for freedom, justice, and a future where democracy prevails. But they cannot do it alone. Their courage has carried this struggle, but they need solidarity—and action—from all of us to sustain it.

Since the early weeks of the resistance, Better Burma has been on the front lines of this crisis, delivering critical aid, supporting education, and advocating for human rights. Thanks to the incredible generosity of past donors, we have been able to save lives, ease suffering, and offer hope to those who need it most. But now, we are at a breaking point. Donations have declined sharply, and our ability to provide life-saving support is in jeopardy. At a time when the need is greatest, we find ourselves stretched to the limit.

We cannot allow this to happen. The people of Myanmar need us to stand with them, now more than ever. They need food, shelter, and medical care. They need our voices to amplify their struggle. They need to know the world has not abandoned them. Every donation, no matter how small, is a lifeline. Every act of solidarity sends a message to those enduring this nightmare: that they are not forgotten, that their fight is not in vain, and that we are with them in their pursuit of freedom.

To those who have supported us before, we thank you with all our hearts. Your contributions have made an immeasurable difference. And to those considering supporting us now, we humbly ask: please don’t look away. Myanmar’s people are counting on us. Together, we can keep their hope alive. Together, we can help them build a future free from fear and oppression. Together, we can make a stand for justice.
