Building Hope in Lay Kay Kaw: A Call to Strengthen Education and Resilience
At Lay Kay Kaw IDP camp, over 1,000 people displaced by relentless military airstrikes are rebuilding their lives with courage and determination. Among them are 334 students and 26 dedicated teachers who have created a school from nothing, driven by the belief that education is a lifeline for the future. This community has faced unimaginable challenges—forced to flee their homes and relocate ten times over the past three years—yet their resolve remains unshaken.
With your generous support, we’ve already been able to make a difference. We’ve begun providing essential resources to address the urgent needs of this school, helping to supply basic materials like notebooks, pens, and even whiteboards. For the teachers, who have worked tirelessly without pay, we’ve begun to offer a small honorarium to recognize their vital contributions. We’ve also supported recreational activities for the students, bringing a spark of joy and a sense of normalcy to their lives through sports equipment. These efforts have had a meaningful impact, but the need is far greater than what we’ve been able to accomplish so far.
The Lay Kay Kaw community still struggles daily with insufficient resources. Teachers remain unpaid for the majority of their service, and the school lacks the supplies necessary to function effectively. The children, many of whom have already endured significant trauma, need more opportunities for play and emotional healing to complement their education. Additionally, the dream of building a library—a sanctuary of knowledge for the students and the wider community—remains just out of reach.
This is where you come in. With your continued support, we can sustain and expand our efforts to ensure that the students and teachers of Lay Kay Kaw receive the tools and encouragement they need to thrive. By funding honorariums for teachers, we can show them that their sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed. By increasing the supply of educational materials, we can create a richer learning environment where students can focus on their studies instead of their hardships. And by providing more recreational equipment, we can offer these children moments of laughter, teamwork, and relief from the weight of displacement.
The total cost of this effort—just 34,800 THB, or about 1,000 USD—could transform the lives of this community. Every contribution makes a tangible difference, and together, we can build on the foundation of hope we’ve already started to create. This isn’t just about funding; it’s about sending a powerful message of solidarity and compassion to people who need it most.
Join us in strengthening the foundation we’ve built. Help us ensure that education and hope continue to flourish in Lay Kay Kaw.
