Like the Kokeko Tree

The kokeko tree (Pseudocarya spp) is much more than just a source of shade in Myanmar. Found throughout the countryside, especially in monasteries and village centers, the kokeko tree is famous for its towering height and large, extending branches that offer much sought-after relief from the sun's unrelenting heat. In rural areas, the kokeko tree is often a gathering place, where communities come together beneath its sheltering canopy. The kokeko tree is also a valued commodity: its timber is strong and durable, its bark and seeds are used in traditional medicines, and its deep roots help stabilize the soil. It is a symbol of refuge, strength and resilience.

There’s a reason we’re choosing to highlight this particular tree, because just as the kokeko tree provides shelter and sustenance to those in Myanmar who rest in its cooling shade, your unwavering support serves as the lifeblood of our nonprofit’s humanitarian and media missions. You, too, can be this refuge—helping sustain us as we navigate the ongoing challenges in Myanmar.

In these times of turmoil, your compassion acts as a beacon of hope, much like the cooling shade of the kokeko tree on Burma’s scorching plains. As the country continues to face brutal conflict, and displacement worsens, the need for assistance grows each day. Families continue to be uprooted, communities torn apart, and resources to dwindle.

At Better Burma, we frequently receive urgent calls for aid from people in immediate danger. Time is often of the essence, leaving us no room for lengthy fundraising campaigns. In those critical moments, we must rely on the resources we have on hand. This is why recurring donations are so crucial. Like the branches of the kokeko tree that offer protection, recurring donations provide us with more flexibility to respond swiftly as needed, ensuring we can deliver aid when and where it is needed most.

We invite you to continue your support, or if you're new to Better Burma, to join us in this vital mission. And whether it’s through a one-time donation or by committing to regular contributions, every bit helps us extend our reach to the most vulnerable. You can donate through secure platforms like PayPal or Patreon, or find more options on our donation page.

Together, we can bring hope and relief to Myanmar, just as the kokeko tree has for centuries provided sanctuary on Myanmar’s dusty, sun-drenched plains. Thank you for standing with us in this mission and helping us continue to make a difference for those who depend on us.
