Gratitude in Bagan
Our Bagan team leader has shared some additional updates from the rice event donation. We thank all supporters who made this possible!
“The Abbot of the monastery where we organized the second session, said that the contributions are really helpful to the monks and nuns in Old Bagan rather than those from the monasteries and nunneries in Nyaung-U and New Bagan where their surroundings are residential areas. For the monks and nuns residing in the places of Old Bagan, their lay attendants have to cook alms-food for their breakfast and lunch these years since they mainly relied on and used to collect alms-round from the local people who sell souvenirs and local products such as lacquer ware, near the temples and at the gateways of the famous temples and pagodas. Now, they feel compassionate to make no burden for these souvenir sellers and they are offered the alms-food cooked by their attendants on their own. This is why, they have already used up their own raw rice which they received the contributions from the locals in the pagoda festivals two years ago before the coup. Now, their raw rice almost ran out and our alms-rice would be a help for them for some more weeks.
Also, for the Pariyatti monasteries and charity monasteries in Nyaung-U, where there are a large number of population of monks and novices, their lay attendants have to cook the breakfast for them though they go alms-round for lunch. That is why, our alms-rice contribution will definitely be helpful to these monasteries as they are using up to their existing own raw rice day by day and it's almost over. Now, mainly the admin monks and senior lecturer monks have no need to worry for the shortage of alms-food for their young student monks and novices.”
