Support for Burma's nuns

Better Burma has allocated some of our donation funds to support Buddhist nuns throughout the Mandalay region. While a full report on the distribution is coming soon, for now we share this photo, with our gratitude expressed for the continued generosity of our donors, which has made this entire support possible!

As difficult as the ongoing double crisis of COVID and coup has been for the country’s monks, it has been even more of a challenge for the nuns, who often receive less assistance from lay supporters. This is true even in usual times, which the past two years have most certainly not been. One can only imagine how difficult it has been for nuns to find adequate resources when there has now come to be so little to go around, and we must keep their well-being in our hearts and minds, and manifest that support through action.

Recent posts and updates have been highlighting the struggles of monastics throughout Monywa, Sagaing Hills, and Bagan, and we will soon begin a new campaign to support Bagan monastics specifically.

In addition to this, we will also be making it a priority to bring out details of how Burma’s nuns have been managing, and undertake a needs assessment as to how we can best support them through this difficult time. As so many foreign practitioners have been the beneficiaries of unconditional giving and support over the years from Burmese nuns, we want to make sure our nonprofit provides a direct way to give back at this most critical time the country’s female monastics.

We thank all meditators and other donors who have not forgotten Burma’s monastics, and nuns in particular, and have helped make their day just a little easier!
