Webu Sayadaw sites in danger
Last month we updated meditators about conflict that had broken out in Khin Oo, near Webu Sayadaw’s home village and monastery of Ingyinbin. Yogis from around the world sent in donations, and we quickly and urgently sent that off, where it was well received.
This week, unfortunately, is not bringing any further good news or relief to this region. A secret report from the Tatmadaw was leaked indicating that they intend to ramp up their “clearance” operations in northern Myanmar, with the hope that they will subdue the people by March 27th. This day is significant as it is a holiday, and originally was meant to honor the Burmese uprising against the Japanese during World War II, but has since been perverted as a celebration of the terror organization known as the Tatmadaw, and now the day is meant as a warning for the death and destruction that the Burmese military will bring to anyone who dares to resist it.
People now believe the military will begin burning scores of villages to the ground to achieve this aim, and a list of the villages and regions to be targeted has also been released. Sadly, two particular villages will stand out to meditators: Shwebo and Khin Oo. The latter, as was detailed in an earlier post, is the town closest to Ingyinbin village, which has already faced so much suffering. The former, Shwebo, is also connected to Webu Sayadaw, as one of his later monasteries was offered here.
With this in mind, there is yet another urgency in providing support to these sites in the weeks ahead of the terrifying assault that they are now preparing for. Any funds earmarked for these purposes will go towards supplying food, medicine, and other necessities while there is still time.
Please also keep in mind that a generous donor has offered to match all donations through the month of March, and so anything you give now may count as double!
