An Offering of Rice...
When Buddhist monks in Myanmar go on their daily alms rounds, they rely on the generosity of the lay community to provide them with basic necessities like food and clothing. However, since the military coup on February 1st, 2021, life has become much harder for monks in Myanmar. Due to the ongoing protests and violence, many people are afraid to leave their homes and are not able to donate as they normally would, while others have lost their jobs and have little opportunity left to make any real livelihood. This has left many monks struggling to even get basic sustenance. The military coup has not only made it difficult for monks to get by, but has also put them at risk of violence. It is more important than ever for the international community to stand with the people of Myanmar and call for an end to the military coup and the restoration of democracy. However, this dream may be beyond our ability. What we can do, is help provide support for those communities now struggling to get by.
As many readers know well, Myanmar is a country that is currently going through a lot of political and social turmoil at the moment, and the monks and nuns are some of the people who are really feeling the effects of this. Some monasteries have even been forced to close down, as the monks who rely on them for food and shelter are struggling to get by. As per the request of the the donor, the donation funds we recently received went towards buying rice for one particular monastery in Myanmar. This monastery is home to around 50 monks, and we found that they were in desperate need of food. The rice we were able to buy for them will make a huge difference to their lives and we are so grateful to have been able to help. The monks were so appreciative of the rice, and we were really touched by their gratitude. The Sayadaw particularly thanked us several times over. It was clear that this donation was going to make a real difference to their lives, and we are so glad that we could help.
The rice offerings that you have contributed will make a huge difference in the lives of the monks that we are supporting. They rely heavily on rice for their sustenance, and your donation will help to ensure that they have enough to eat. We are truly touched by your kindness and compassion, and we will make sure to put your donation to good use. Thank you again for your support, and we hope that you will continue to help us in our efforts to support Buddhist monks in Myanmar.
