Displaced Persons in Karen State

Dear Donors,

We are very happy to report that we have allocated funds to purchase supplies for those recently displaced people in Mone Township, Nawnglebin district, located in Western Karen state, as well as to those around the regions of Ler Doh and Hsaw Hti. Our local sources inform us that there are now over 15,000 people in hiding in this district alone. The ground team is now using  your donation to provide 500 tarps, and applying the remainder to find medicine and purchase rice for these people the best we can. Your support helps us do that.

Understood in a wider context, the IDPs in Myanmar are some of the most vulnerable people in the world. They have been forced to flee their homes, often with little warning, and have lost everything as the military has gone on to raze entire villages. In some cases, the Tatmadaw has then bombed IDP camps from the air, at the same time they’ve attacked them with mortar rockets from the ground.

One of the biggest challenges is finding suitable housing, made more difficult during the Monsoon and Hot Seasons. They are also at risk of exploitation and abuse. Another challenge is finding work to support themselves and their families. Many IDPs are not able to find any work at all as they are simply trying to stay alive. IDPs also face difficulties in accessing basic services such as healthcare, education and clean water. They often live in crowded and unsanitary conditions, which can lead to disease. Many IDPs are also traumatized by the violence they have witnessed or experienced. They may suffer from mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.

It is imperative that we find a way to continuing providing them with the assistance they so desperately need, and your generous support allows us to do just that!

Thank you so much for your generous donations to the Myanmar IDP camp. Your donations have helped to provide much needed relief to the people in the camp, and have made a huge difference in their lives. The people in the camp have been through a lot, and your donations have helped to make their lives a little bit easier. Thank you for your compassion and generosity. Thank you again for your donations. You have made a huge difference in the lives of the people in the camp, and we are very grateful.
