Bringing Computer Education to the Village
We applied part of your donation to a volunteer who is supporting computer education in her village, while in hiding on CDM. Read her description below.
“A CDM IT instructor we support monthly excitedly called me one day saying that she started teaching basic computer skills in her hometown. Before the coup, she worked as a teacher in a vocational college, and she needed to escape from her staff housing, leaving behind all personal belongings. She was on the road for more than a month and survived with our small contribution. After staying on the road for many weeks, she decided to return to her hometown and stay low profile.
After returning to her small hometown and looking at the small community, she wanted to help the children continue learning while at home. Thanks to the internet and modern technology, there are a lot of resources available to learn skills by yourself. So, she decided to utilize her profession and teach 2 children basic computer skills so that they know how to access the internet and learn any subject they want. Unlike most in this small town, these 2 children are very fortunate to have a computer and internet access at a time when connectivity is limited.
She became to be very motivated after she started teaching these 2 children. We asked if there are any other children who want to learn basic computer skills as well. She replied: “my hometown is very small, and many families are civil staff including my family. Only very few families can afford to buy a computer and have wi-fi at home”. We asked: what are the most important things she needs to teach more children. Of course, the answer is obvious – broadband connection and laptops.
After hearing her story and enthusiasm about her contribution to her community, we asked for small donations from our close friends to install wi-fi at her home and buy some second-hand laptops. At this moment, we have found generous friends to donate their unused, good condition laptops. These small contributions will benefit not only the mental health of CDM staff but also the children in her community.
Many CDM staff want to contribute to their community during this difficult time. We are planning to help as many of these CDM staff and their communities as possible. This can only happen with your collective support, and we hope you are able to help and contribute to the communities.”
