Your donation to South Dagon
Last week’s night massacre in the impoverished Yangon district of South Dagon sadly added a large increase onto the death count since the February 1st military coup. To add insult to injury, not only were so many murdered and gravely injured, but the military continued its bizarre practice of trying steal corpses from grieving family members.
Although nothing can really put a family at rest after a night terror like this, your donation has at least provided something at a time when there is very little to go around. Due to the security risk, volunteers were not able to personally hand deliver these funds to those families, but they prepared individual envelopes, as shown below with the names redacted, and made sure these reached their intended destination.
Even at a time as horrendous as this, the recipients took the time to handwrite a letter thanking them— which is to say, you! After all, this was money that readers have so generously contributed to our fund. The letter is below, and expresses the genuine gratitude that you remembered them on what may very well be the worst day of their life, giving them a little something to manage just a little better.
So we too say, thank you donors.
