Upper Myanmar Monastic Relief Plan
Our local contact who is overseeing food distribution across Upper Myanmar to monastics has prepared the following plan with his team. To begin, his group will target monastic sites facing crisis in three locations: the Sagaing Hills, Monywa, and rural Mandalay. If sufficient funds are able to come in from donors to complete this work, they will expand their operations to other regions in Myanmar to support further monastic populations. Because any donation activity today in Myanmar is subject to immediate arrest and worse, his team has had to map out a carefully thought plan as to how to safely distribute the funds to those monastics and children now in great need. This week we have just transferred the initial installment of funds, and we will be sharing his update when it is safe for him to prepare it. Please consider a contribution to help make this a success!
Missions
(A) We are working our best to find and reach out to the monasteries/nunneries/orphanages which are in bad need or almost shortage of food, firstly in Sagaing, Monywa and around Mandalay.
(B) We are working with local volunteers from different areas of these regions to reach out to actual needy monastics and nuns, as well the lay-children of different ethnicities who are taking refuge there.
Targeted Beneficiaries
Total population of 2,115 monks, young novices and nuns as well as the lay-children residing and taking refuge in 112 monasteries/nunneries/charity orphanages.
Expected Impacts
A population of 3,704 monks, young novices and nuns, as well as the lay-children will be supplied with food for an expected period of a month.
130 monastic schools, nunnery schools and Parahita orphanages will be able to keep accommodating and providing a population of 1,526 children (including novices, nuns and lay-children of different ethnicities) with a free education. [The children can stay longer and do not need to go back to their home villages which are mostly the conflict zones.]
