Background Update in Chin State

We received the following update from our partners in Chin state. As many know who have been following the news out of Myanmar, Chin is one of the hardest hit areas in recent months. This team has been onsite in every disaster, trying to save the lives of those that the Burmese military are bent on destroying. With no international relief organizations allowed in, the work they are doing becomes especially critical at this time. To see your donation go directly to support their mission, please earmark your contribution so we can apply towards their work.

An estimated 50,000 refugees from Myanmar have fled to Mizoram side of India for their lives and safety of which about 90% are from Chin state.

Chin was already the most impoverished state in Myanmar even before the military coup, and now the targeted attacks and burning down of such as the Thantlang Town by the Burmese tamadaw recently, conflicts and fighting continue in almost all parts of Chin state , there have been cutting off of such as communications (internet, phone lines, media ) , transportation and travel blockade and restrictions  , it is extremely difficult and challenging for the civilians to survive and even to live , every aspect of their life is greatly affected, from children to elderly physically, mentally and emotionally.

In several places the military also imposed martial law, has occupied the schools and hospitals, destroying the properties, cutting out water supplies , phone connections in the region and bombarding with heavy weapons by land and air and become an unbearable situation for the people to live in .

The result is that there are continued tortures, arrests  and causalities ,moreover there is a huge population displacement , the school children can not go to schools , the whole healthcare system and service is collapsed , the most affected are the pregnant women , children ,elderly , and food security is of a big rising concern because daily essentials can not be purchased or transported easily anymore, even if some are available the prices of everything are so high . An estimated 50,000 refugees from Myanmar have fled to Mizoram side of India for their lives and safety of which about 90% are from Chin state .

Others most IDPs whose villages and houses are burnt down by the military or where there is a military movement ,  have fled to forests taking shelter with whatever available and others are taking shelter in several villages across Chin state where the fighting are relatively less and being hosted by the villagers sharing their foods at their homes , at Church buildings , school buildings and many others made a temporary bamboo tent for the IDPs .

Our volunteers are risking their life to go and help but we are out mostly of resource. Thank you for any help we can get.
