Food goes to Sagaing Hills

Dear donors,

Thank you sincerely for your generous donation, part of which we allocated to hand deliver dry food goods at 15 nunneries and monasteries across the Sagaing Hills. Our trusted local volunteer, who grew up in this sacred part of the country, has extensive relationships with all the local monastic sites going back generations in his family, which allowed him to effectively assess the conditions and respond accordingly, so that we could make proper decisions with the fund.

Through a combination of a collapsed economy and unsafe conditions, this has had a devastating effect of depriving many monasteries of their food stores. Now, even going to a local monastery to gain merit, a customary Burmese Buddhist practice going back centuries, can put one’s life in immediate risk by beating, abduction, or even death from the military. So evil is this regime that we cannot even show the faces of those monastics we have fed, as they will risk immediate punishment for accepting this aid. There is no other way to say it: many integral parts of Burmese society are now breaking down.

Although our organization cannot single-handedly save these traditions and institutions, your donation at least allows these spiritual renunciates a few more days beyond scarcity rations. And for that, we thank you deeply. For any meditator who has benefited from the Golden Land’s spiritual support, either in person or through a lineage, now is the time to give back and demonstrate just a small shade of the care so many of us have experienced for years, if not decades.

We will continue to apply the donation fund towards a wide range of humanitarian projects to support the terror that the military is continuing to unleash.
