Supporting Special Needs Care

When a society breaks down, critical services stop across all sectors. This coup has had the result of destroying every livelihood in every sector of Myanmar’s society. From education to health care, from business to ethnic rights, from gender equality to child safety. One of these sectors which has largely been neglected is special needs care. That is why we are so pleased to tell you that part of your donation has been allocated to a volunteer who has been trying to help this community, at a time when they have been largely neglected by the great needs elsewhere. Please note the names have been changed to keep the recipients safe. Also, please note that the local volunteer has indicated where further help is needed. If you have the volition, please consider giving towards this cause.

Chit (brother of Win, 6 family members)

  • Age: 12 years old

  • Hobby: playing with toys

  • Condition: is non-verbal and has polio. Can walk but not normally. Was not given the polio

    vaccination

  • Needs: Food aid for him and his entire family. Needs to be connected with disability

    organizations who can support him.

  • Win (brother of Chit, 6 family members)

    • Age: 33 years old

    • Condition: is non-verbal and has polio. Wants to attend schools for disabled children but

      his parents don't have any connections and cannot afford the cost.

    • Needs: Food aid for him and his entire family. Needs to be connected with disability organizations who can support him.

  • Phoe (family of 5)

    • Age: 67 years old

    • Condition: paralytic stroke, has some speech difficulties, cannot walk much

    • Needs: Medical support (accessing health services is too costly for them)

Nan (4 family members)

  • Age: 10 years old

  • Hobby: enjoys beautifying herself

  • Condition: Non-verbal and deaf, has never attended school

  • Needs: Educational support and disability support (however, parents are resistant)

Yuzana (has a daughter)

  • Age: 20 years old

  • Condition: has epilepsy

  • Needs: health support for epilepsy, food aid, childcare

    Thein (has a grandaughter)

    • Age: 64 years old

    • Condition: has high blood pressure

    • Needs: Food support, needs medication

  • Khin (lives alone)

    • Age: 70 years old

    • Conditions: low vision, neuralgia, no income support

    • Needs: nerve medication, food support

  • Tint (lives alone)

    • Age: 74

    • Conditions: low vision, liver problems

    • Needs: Needs basic medications, food support

  • Myat (lives with daughter)

    • Age: 70

    • Conditions: paralytic stroke, limited mobility, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, difficulties swallowing food

    • Needs: Medical support, food support
