Mizoram on the Map

We are continuing to support a Chin relief group who is now active in Mizoram, India, where many Chin refugees are streaming across the border as the Tatmadaw concentrates its campaign of terror throughout the Chin Hills. Following is a message describing their current activities and needs. Please consider sharing more information about this donation request to those in your network, as we are now hearing that some groups have only enough food and water for several weeks ahead.

“Since the military coup on the 1st February 2021, many Myanmar civilians have lost their lives, homes and their livelihood within they are fighting for their freedom. Tens of thousands have fled to the nearest border to seek their safety since early March 2021. So as in Mizoram, many refugees particularly from Chin state Myanmar fled to different parts of Mizoram state, India. Mizoram State is located in the northeastern part of the country and is bounded by Myanmar to the east and south, Bangladesh to the west. The residents of Mizoram consist almost entirely of the scheduled tribe (an official category of indigenous groups that fall outside the predominant Indian social hierarchy). The majority of the population is Christian-predominantly protestant.

Our group is now overseeing the provision of shelter and essential household grants including beddings and cooking equipment, and giving out food grants such as Rice, Oil, Dal, Sugar, etc., health and hygiene grants to relieve the short-term burden to both the refugees and the local hosting communities. Even though we can help now with the donors and partners, we will never know till when we can help. The needs of them in their daily life is growing every day.”
