Humanitarian crisis developing in northern Kachin State
It’s hard to believe that the pastoral scenes depicted in this promotional video from Danai just a year ago, a northernmost village in Kachin state, are now wracked by starvation and desperation.
The combination of crop failures around the agricultural area of Shetesouk, combined with 80 IDP families seeking refuge here after running from the Tatmadaw, has turned this once peaceful rural setting into a an unfolding disaster tale. Villagers further report that they are unable to hunt for meat as they have done in the past, as much of the surrounding area has now become a battleground. All remaining food stocks are dwindling down to almost nothing, and families don’t know where to turn to next.
One member of their group has reached out to us, and we are passing on their urgent plea to the wider global community who has been concerned about the carnage caused by this military coup. Please consider earmarking a donation so that we can send much-needed food and medical supplies to Danai.
