Access to a doctor in the Sagaing Hills

The work to provide proper medical relief to these children in the Sagaing Hills is not hard. As painful as the photo we shared yesterday might have been, we hope your spirits are uplifted by seeing this one. This boy was suffering just as badly as the others, but through donation, his mother was able to bring him to the clinic twice, where he received some food, milk, soap and soap powder, in addition to various medicine. For just $40, he is already on the road to recovery.

The local doctor has informed us that the condition is spreading because of a lack of clean water and food. Additionally, there have been more floods this monsoon season, and the water stays there for sometime as people have to walk through it. This causes enormous problems for children, as the sand and dirt causes itches and bring about skin diseases. And with their smaller height, they are forced to wade through more of the water so it comes in contact with more of their body.

These problems are not exactly new to Myanmar given the weather and conditions, but what is new is the damage and destruction unleashed from the military coup. Families have very little funds on hands, even for these medical emergencies, many doctors are unavailable to meet patients, and supplies of medicines are dwindling. That is why we are launching this fundraiser, and your contribution helps greatly!
