Myanmar: A Journey of Self-Discovery and Connection to the Earth, as Experienced by a French Hippy Sleeping Under Trees for Three Weeks

We offer the following rather unusual submission from a traveler who came to Myanmar in 2008:

As I wander through the winding streets of Yangon, I feel a sense of freedom and adventure that I have not felt in a long time. I am Alain, a French hippy traveling through Myanmar, and I have been sleeping under trees for my entire three week trip.

The first thing that struck me about this magical land was the vibrant colors and smells that seem to fill every corner of the city. From the bright gold of the pagodas to the spicy aromas of street food vendors, the sensory overload is almost too much to handle.

As I wander through the bustling markets and down winding alleys, I feel a sense of connection to the earth and to the people around me that I have not felt in a long time. The Burmese are a friendly and welcoming people, and I have felt nothing but kindness from them during my stay.

But it is not just the people that have captured my heart – it is also the landscape. From the rolling hills and fields of Bagan to the crystal clear waters of Inle Lake, the beauty of this country is simply breathtaking.

As I lay my head down to sleep under the stars each night, I feel a sense of peace and contentment that I have not felt in a long time. Whether it is the gentle rustling of the leaves in the breeze or the sound of distant temple bells, there is something about this place that touches my soul in a way that I cannot explain.

As my journey comes to an end and I prepare to return to the hustle and bustle of my daily life, I know that the memories of my time in Myanmar will stay with me forever. This magical land has touched my heart and soul in a way that I will never forget.
