Lashio
Lashio is a town in northern Myanmar (formerly Burma) and the capital of Lashio Township in the Shan State. It is located approximately 200 km (120 mi) north-east of Mandalay, at an elevation of 1,362 metres (4,475 ft). Lashio serves as the hub of trade and transportation for the Shan State, with road and rail links to Mandalay and the Chin Hills as well as to Yunnan, China.
The Lashio bazaar is the largest in the Shan State and Lashio is an important market town for the region's agricultural produce, including rice, vegetables, tobacco, beans, sesame, cotton and jade. There are also significant mining operations in the area for coal, tin and tungsten.
