Yangon crows
If you’ve ever been to Yangon, you’ve probably noticed the crows. They’re everywhere, and they’re loud. Really loud. Some people might find their cawing annoying, but to me it’s one of the things that makes Yangon feel like home.
There are two types of crows in Yangon: the house crow and the jungle crow. The house crow is the smaller of the two, and it’s the one you’re most likely to see in the city. They’re not shy, and they’ll often perch on power lines or rooftops to watch the hustle and bustle below.
The jungle crow is larger and darker, and you’re more likely to see them in the outskirts of the city. They’re not as friendly as the house crows, and they’ll usually stay in the trees rather than come down to where people are.
Both types of crows make the same noise, but the jungle crow’s caw is deeper and more resonant. It’s a sound that you feel as much as you hear, and it always makes me think of the jungle – even when I’m in the heart of the city.
The crows in Yangon are different from the crows in other parts of the world. They’re not afraid of people, and they’re not afraid to make themselves heard. To me, that’s one of the things that makes Yangon such a special place.
