Warm clothing to defected military families

The Spouses Of People's Soldiers’ founder Ma Su Thit was featured on a recent podcast episode. Her husband Ko Htet Myat is from a military family which opposed the coup d'état in the early months, and since his defection, he has been active in speaking out against Tatmadaw abuses.

Soon following the February military coup, civil servants organized the Civil Disobedience Movement. Some soldiers also participated. A period of one to two years has since passed since soldiers who joined CDM, who along with their families, escaped and have had to shelter in liberated areas. There was an increase in population and a depletion in supplies as time passed. Due to the fact that they had to sneak out of the camp quietly, they were not able to take any of their belongings, and had to leave everything behind. It was therefore the responsibility of the camp officials to arrange clothes upon arrival at the liberation camp.

Through the Spouses Of Peoples' Soldiers, Better Burma has donated warm clothes to the families of soldiers who have joined CDM. The price of one full set of warm clothes is 200-300 Baht (around $8), and the price of used clothing is just 60-100 Baht (around $3). We were able to deliver the clothes to the CDM camp in the liberated area.

The CDM soldiers are very grateful to Better Burma for their support and to Spouses Of Peoples' Soldiers for organizing this. In turn, we at Better Burma as so pleased to have received this generosity from our kind-hearted donors. Thank you for remembering Myanmar during this time!
