Meditation in Yaytagone Taung

Just about everyone seems to find time for meditation in Burma. And if you are on your way here or there, like this young girl, there is always a moment to sit right down with your backpack still on and observe a few breaths or recollect the qualities of the Buddha before moving on your way.

This photo is from Nam San Mogok Monastery in Yaytagone Taung ("Waterfall Mountain"), located about 30 minutes outside of Mandalay. The senior monks here train poor village children, novices, and nuns in meditation, and welcome foreign meditators to visit as well. Especially unique at this monastery is the strange wood that a logger found deep in the forest and donated to the site, and which was used to carve incredible Buddhist engravings.
