Preparing for Monsoon

Monsoon season in Myanmar typically runs from May to October, with heavy rains and high humidity levels. The best thing to do during this time is to be prepared and take precautions to stay healthy.

One of the most important things to do is to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, and avoid sugary or caffeinated drinks. It is also a good idea to avoid alcohol, as it can dehydrate you.

Wearing loose, breathable clothing is also important, as it will help you to stay cool and comfortable. Natural fabrics such as cotton are ideal. Avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest hours of the day will also help to keep you healthy.

If you can, try to stay indoors during the heaviest rains. If you must go outside, wear appropriate footwear to avoid slipping, and carry an umbrella to protect yourself from the rain.

It is also important to take care of your skin during the monsoon season. Wash your face and body regularly with soap and water, and apply a moisturizer to keep your skin from drying out.

If you have any cuts or scrapes, be sure to clean them immediately and apply a bandage. It is also a good idea to avoid swimming in dirty water, as this can increase your risk of infection.

Finally, pay attention to your mental health during the monsoon season. The weather can be stressful, so make sure to take some time for yourself to relax and de-stress. If you start to feel overwhelmed, talk to a friend or family member, or see a counselor if necessary.
