Urgent Humanitarian Appeal: Support Needed for IDPs in Karen State
Following the military coup in Myanmar in February 2021, our organization, Better Burma, was launched to support the Burmese people. One of our main areas of focus is on providing humanitarian aid to those vulnerable communities who have been impacted by the ongoing violence. Central to our mission is the establishment of trusted networks, allowing us to effectively channel aid—medical supplies, food, and basic necessities—directly to those in need, despite logistical challenges. We meticulously select local partners who are active in their surround communities, ensuring that our support is both impactful and appropriate for the people we serve, and which your generous donations go on to support. Our efforts are underpinned by innovation, particularly in overcoming banking disruptions, to guarantee that all contributions reach their intended destinations. Our work embodies the collective effort and solidarity of individuals worldwide, and with this in mind, we would like to share one project that we are working to support from a trusted group who have been engaged in excellent work in their local community. Following is their submission, and while we are allocating some funds to support their work, we humbly request any interested reader to consider offering a contribution earmarked to this cause so that we can provide greater aid. Today, we reach out to you with a profound sense of urgency and a heartfelt plea for support. The situation in Kaw Thoo Lie has reached a critical juncture, as so many residents have had to abandon their homes, seeking refuge in the jungle due to escalating safety concerns. Regrettably, this displacement has severely compromised their ability to sustain themselves, leaving them in desperate need of basic necessities, particularly food.
In response to this dire situation, we have embarked on a mission to assist as many households of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Kler Lwee Htu area as possible. Our primary objective is to extend a helping hand to these vulnerable families by providing essential items such as rice, oil, and daily nourishment.
